What is Sitemap?

A sitemap is a file (usually sitemap.xml) that lists the page URLs on a site and tells search engines about them.

Sitemap, sitemap.xml · Marketing Glossary · Updated

A sitemap lists page URLs and their last-modified dates, and is submitted to Google Search Console, Naver Search Advisor and Bing Webmaster Tools. It helps search engines find new pages quickly and not miss pages buried deep in the site.

Writing the sitemap URL at the bottom of robots.txt makes it easy for crawlers to find.
