What is Search intent?

Search intent is what a person actually wants when they search, usually split into informational, navigational, transactional and comparison intent.

Search Intent · Marketing Glossary · Updated

Informational searches look for knowledge, like "types of acne scars"; navigational searches look for a specific site; transactional searches look to act, like "book a dermatologist in Haeundae"; and comparison searches look for information to choose with, like "laser toning vs. pico toning."

Even on the same topic, answering in the format that matches the intent (an explainer, a comparison table, a booking page) makes a page more likely to be used in search results and AI answers.
